What are the costs involved in pursuing a medical malpractice claim?

Many attorneys who handle medical malpractice cases work on a "contingency fee" basis. This usually means that the attorney will not charge the client an hourly rate for his or her services. Instead, the attorney will be paid a percentage of any recovery that may result from a settlement, award, or judgment. With a contingency fee agreement, the attorney is paid only if her or she is able to obtain from a settlement, award, or judgment for the client. In addition, many of these attorneys also wait until the resolution of the case to recover for expenses (such as expert fees, deposition costs, and so forth). Thus, financial concerns should not prevent someone who suspects that they may have been the victim of medical malpractice from immediately contacting a qualified attorney.
